SITUATION
Like everyone else, patients are also adopting mobile for their daily activities. UHG innovation team wanted to leverage that trend to help patients find cheaper alternative medicine for a prescribed drug and motivate medical adherence. Before investing in a full-scale solution, they have built a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) app on iOS and Android platforms and made it available to 500 users to validate the product adoption and capture feedback.

CHALLENGES
Decision making on the MVP required a data-driven approach. UHG wanted a tool that can help them understand how patients interacted with the apps and discover any possible friction and opportunities for improvement.
SOLUTION
For any health insurance company, the best-case scenario is when members continue to pay their premiums but remain healthy—that’s when the company gets to collect premiums without worrying about claims, also, as the amount.
UHG has integrated Upshot.ai into their iOS and Android apps and started capturing patients’ behavioral data. Analyzing this data concludes that the Android app adoption was shallow and did not qualify for further investment.
Using Upshot.ai Micro-surveys, UHG started capturing feedback from users. These surveys were scheduled to appear on every 3rd visit to the App till their 15th visit.
The UHG team then analyzed the feedback and subsequent
product improvements were made.
RESULTS
- Discovered that the initiative does better business on the iOS platform.
- The Rx Refill feature was the most useful and hence was recommended to be made available directly on their website home page.
