SITUATION
ZYTO introduced a mobile app that aids their customers in self-improvement by expanding their perceptions about personal issues.
To experience the benefit, the user must complete a sequence of steps in the app:
- Firstly, The user speaks into the phone about a specific topic.
- Secondly, The app analyzes frequencies in the user’s voice using ZYTO’s advanced voice-mapping technology.
- Moreover, It generates a unique image designed to help the user perceive the topic more positively.
This process is known as perception reframing.
The user can go through the first three reframing sequences for free. Thereafter, they need to upgrade to a paid subscription to continue.
This app is feature-rich and relies on a sequence of steps that the customer must complete to get an immediate benefit. After the app launch, initial observations revealed a gap in the customer experience—customers were having difficulties finish.

CHALLENGES
A few months into the app launch, ZYTO saw that conversions to paid subscriptions were not as high as desired.
SOLUTION
The Upshot.ai customer success team worked closely with the ZYTO team
and assisted them throughout the solution.
Moreover, User behavior analytics in Upshot.ai helped the teams discover a key insight- users who completed the reframing sequence showed a higher likelihood of buying a paid subscription.
This inspired the teams who put together a two-part action plan.
Part 1 – Broad-based
For all first-time users, highlight the importance of completing the
the sequence during their app onboarding.
The teams rolled this out using the Tutorials feature of Upshot.ai.
Also, every time user launches the app; they were shown uplifting messages using the In-App Messages feature of Upshot.ai:
Part 2 – Segmented
For users with incomplete sequences, nudge them to complete. Then, target the completing users with messages that highlight the paid Subscription benefits along with a call-to-action (CTA).
The hyper-segmentation capabilities of Upshot.ai were critical in pulling this off.
The teams segmented users based on their app usage and the part of the in-app journey where they slowed down or dropped off. The teams created and sent personalized, contextual tutorials to nudge them to complete the sequence to these segments.
In-app messages:
To share useful facts at critical points in the user’s journey, such as the benefits of a paid subscription. Some of these messages contain social proof collected from paid users who experienced significant benefits from regularly using the app.
Push notifications:
Push notifications were sent to remind users about finishing any incomplete sequence and upgrade to a paid subscription.
Lastly, rating requests were sent to users to get their feedback on how they felt before and after completing the reframing sequence.
Therefore, This user feedback was used by the ZYTO research team to enhance their app in the next versions.
RESULTS
- Sessions increased 21%
- 43% more users completed the reframing sequence
- 63% more paid subscriptions
